Helen Ruth Sheler, 75, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 11, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Cremation will follow with inurnment later at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Helen was born May 11, 1946, at Plainview, Texas, the daughter of Hubbard Reed and Dorothy Ann (Wyatt) Dunlap. She was a long-time Ottawa resident. In 1960, Helen was united in marriage to Donald E. Sheler in Texas. Helen was employed as a cook at the Ottawa Junior High School in the early 1970’s; assembly worker with Parmalee Manufacturing in 1970; and assembly worker at King Radio in 1980’s. Helen enjoyed her pet cats, reading, yard sales and watching the Denver Broncos and KC Royals. Above all, she loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bobby Dunlap and Tommy Dunlap, and daughter Brenda Sheler. Survivors include her husband Don Sheler of Ottawa; son, Dennis Sheler (Annette) of Topeka; three siblings, Ethel Brady (Larry Barry), Roy Dunlap (Judy), and Kenny Dale Dunlap all of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Tiffany Bailey, Kristine Brady, Dakota Dunlap, Paul Dunlap, and Michia Sheler; and several great grandchildren.
