Helen Rose Slyter of Paola, Kansas went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Olathe
Medical Center. She was in the presence of her husband and family members at the time of her passing.
She was born at home in Louisburg, Kansas and accepted Christ early in life. After graduating from
Louisburg High School, she married her only love, Walton Dean Slyter in 1956. This union born three
children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Helen worked for the SRS until she retired
in 1994.
Helen had a love of music and was a wonderful pianist. She played for each church she attended
including Spring Hill Baptist Church and Church of Christ of Fontana. Her love of music also led to
learning the violin and saxophone. She loved spending time in the garden, sewing clothes and quilts for
family and friends, and best of all, cooking delicious family dinners.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Walton Dean Slyter; her children, Ken Slyter (Penny)
of Spring Hill, KS, Stephanie Schimming (Mark) of Goddard, KS and Roger Slyter (Stephanie) of Council
Bluffs, IA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents, William and Leta Mae Kohlenberg and her two sisters, Virginia Knop
and Lois Matney.
