Helen Marie Foushee was born October 3, 1923, at Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of John and Grace (Martin) Bauer. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, then lived eight years on a farm in western Kansas, moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1951, where she made her home, until her death Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the age of eighty-one years. Helen attended grade schools in western Kansas, and Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a homemaker, working thirteen years as a machine operator at Parmelee Products, and later, two or three years on the assembly line at King Radio, retiring in 1980. Helen was a member of First Christian Church and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary, of Ottawa, making monthly trips to the V. A. Hospital in Leavenworth for ten years. She was also a devoted member of the Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years, Army Gold Star Mothers during the 1960's and 1970's, and delivered Meals on Wheels for twelve years. The families she delivered to always looked forward to Helen's visits. Mrs. Foushee was a lovely, caring lady, who loved people and was always ready to help anyone who needed her. She enjoyed the outdoors and liked to go camping. In 1942, Helen was united in marriage with Raymond Gosney at Kansas City, Kansas. They later divorced. On June 28, 1955, Helen was united in marriage with Max Foushee at Mankato, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by two daughters, Sharon Jones and her husband, Richard, of Ottawa, Peggy Caylor and her husband, Sam, of Rantoul; two sons, Gerald R. Gosney and his companion, Tammi, of Wellsville, Earl E. 'Ed' Foushee and his wife, Joy, of Ottawa; cousin, Rosemary Simmons of Jamesport, Missouri; adopted brother, Wayne Weidmann of West DesMoines, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Foushee is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Earl Shaw; and stepsister, Evelyn Tate. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, with Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary honors. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Scott Dickinson. IN STATE: Mrs. Foushee will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.
