Helen M. Crawford was born on Sunday, October 8, 1922, in Gove County, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late George C. and Hazel Ann (Huston) Rhine. Helen lived in the Centropolis, Kansas area for thirty-six years, moving to Overbrook, Kansas in 1966, where she made her home until her death on Monday, March 7, 2011, at the age of eighty-eight years. Helen graduated from Baldwin High School with the class of 1940. She was a homemaker. She also worked in the maintenance and janitorial departments for Baker University for ten years, and Baldwin High School fifteen years, retiring in the mid 1990’s. Helen was a loving wife, mother, and aunt, who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Centropolis Christian Church and Centropolis E.H.U. On Saturday, August 15, 1942, Helen was united in marriage with Roy D. Crawford in Ottawa, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-six years together. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2008. She is also preceded in death by her son, Clyde Crawford; son-in-law, Leonard Shuck; three sisters, Phillis Rebarchek, Kathryn Snodgrass, Lillian Chemings; two brothers, George Rhine, Rolland Rhine; and two grandsons, Luke Terrell, Clifford Sudja. She is survived by four daughters, Dee Ann Shuck of Ottawa, KS, Claudia Terrell of Lawrence, KS, Nancy Sanders and her husband, Tom, of Overbrook, KS, Lois Ardahl and her husband, Jay, of Overbrook, KS; brother, Clyde Rhine of Wellsville, KS; sister, Alma Warnock of Overland Park, KS; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Centropolis Christian Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011. IN STATE: Mrs. Crawford will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening at Centropolis Christian Church. CEMETERY: Union Cemetery in Centropolis, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Centropolis Christian Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
