Hazel Mildred (Shaffer) Fanning, age 90, of Richmond, Kan., died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kan. she was the daughter of the late William Shaffer and the late Bertha (Hohenstein) Shaffer. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Quenemo. In July of 1936, she moved to Ottawa and on April 26, 1962, to Pomona. In 1997, she moved to Richmond. Hazel graduated from Quenemo High School with the class of 1931. She was a lifelong homemaker. She worked as a waitress at Overholt`s Cafe in Ottawa and as a practical nurse. She was a charter member and one of the founders of Community Foursquare Church in Ottawa. She was a Sunday school teacher, counselor and volunteered at the nursing homes. On March 9, 1937, Hazel was united in marriage with William Ralph Fanning at Cassville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1981. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Clyde Greisen. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Fanning at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Monday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
