Hazel Irene Mock was born August 30, 1911, in rural Odon, Indiana. She was the daughter of William Edgar and Elva May (Seneff) Potter. Shortly after her birth, in 1912, her family moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the age of ninety-two years. Hazel attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1929. She was employed as a rose house foreman at Willis Nursery in Ottawa for thirty-five years. In earlier years, she was employed as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. When Hazel was a child, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Ottawa. She was an avid gardener and also liked to work in her yard. She loved all animals, especially, dogs. She dearly loved and enjoyed the companionship of her beloved 'Pepper'. On August 8, 1929, Hazel was united in marriage with Wilber Dean Mock at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1984. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Owen Potter; and, three sisters, Edith Landess, Lucille Elliott, and Vera Ferguson. She is survived by her brother, Ray W. Potter and his wife, Orpha, of Ottawa. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004. OFFICIANT: Pastor Richard Dunn IN STATE: Mrs. Mock will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
