Hazel I. Henry, 81, of Paola, KS, died Wednesday June 7th at St. Luke’s South Hospital, Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., June 13, at First Lutheran Church, Paola, with graveside service following at the Paola City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Endowment Fund or to the Miami County Cancer Fund. Hazel was born January 16, 1936 in Paola, KS to Lilie Koelsch Prothe and Anton Prothe. She lived in Corvallis, OR from 1941 to 1953 and graduated from high school there. She married the love of her life, Donald, on September 4, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Paola. Hazel was an accomplished creator of crochet work; her patterns were published with Leisure Arts in the US, France, and South America. An avid music lover, she listened to classical music and enjoyed going with her grandsons to the Saturday night concerts at the Memorial Hall Jamborees in Ft. Scott. Hazel was a woman of strong, unwavering faith; she loved her family dearly. She lived a life of integrity and made a difference in the lives of her family and those around her. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Lilie and Anton Prothe; her son, Michael Henry, and her grandson, Jacob Henry. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Henry, of the home; sons Steven (Connie) Henry of Edwardsville and Dan Henry (Rachel Olson) of Olathe; and grandchildren Collin, Taylor, and Zachary Henry.
