Hazel G. Brown, 95, of Williamsburg, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015, at Olathe Medical Center. Family will meet with friends from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M., Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, Kansas. Hazel was born Monday, November 29, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herman and Evelyn (Butler) Patzwald. She lived in various locations including El Segundo, California; Leavenworth, Kansas; and Saint Joseph, Missouri, moving in 1967 to Williamsburg. She attended schools in Wisconsin and when she was in her late 40s attended Emporia State University receiving her teacher’s certificate. Hazel was united in marriage with Lloyd Greaves, in 1935, in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1970. Hazel was married in 1964 to Jay Brown in Ottawa. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her two children, Louis Greaves and Pat Cox; parents, Herman and Evelyn Patzwald; siblings, Robert Patzwald, Richard Patzwald and Susie Talbot; granddaughter, Rodin Cox and great granddaughter, Tara Randel. Survivors include her three daughters, Carolyn Randel and husband John of Ottawa, Terry Lederer and husband Jack of Pomona and Linda Warren of Fredonia; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. Hazel was a very hard worker holding numerous jobs. She was a special education teacher at Williamsburg Elementary in the 1980s; manager of the Williamsburg Senior Center and Meals on Wheels during the 1990s through 2010 and was a sales clerk at the Oak Store in Williamsburg. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Ottawa and the Williamsburg Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron. Hazel was a longtime volunteer for the Williamsburg Library and was an active caregiver to many in the community. She helped in the nursery at the Lutheran Church and also attended the Williamsburg Methodist Church. Hazel was an avid reader, enjoyed yard work, flower and vegetable gardens. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Williamsburg Library c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
