Hazel Ames

Hazel M. Ames, age 96, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, August 31, 2009. She was born on Sunday, October 6, 1912, in Cherryvale, Kansas. She was the daughter of Hugh Morrison and Gladys (Gilliland) Brown. She grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, moving to Ottawa in 1928. Hazel attended schools in Overland Park and Ottawa. She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell from 1929 to retirement on October 8, 1967. She was a former member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and current member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Franklin County Historical Society and Friends of Historical Buildings. On Friday, April 6, 1934, Hazel was united in marriage with Louis G. Ames in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1993.
