Harry George Volland age 88 formally of Paola passed away Sept 17 in Wyoming. Memorial Service will be Oct. 2 at 11:00 AM with visitation at 10:00 AM, burial in Paola Cemetery. Nedra Volland who died May 22, will be included in the Memorial Service at the Evergreen Events. Southside of Park Square. Harry was born Feb. 15, 1921 in Kansas City MO. to Harry George and Leafy Travene Brown Volland. He grew up in Raytown where he attended school, after graduation Harry enlisted on Feb. 4, 1939 in the US Army in the First Battalion, 17th Infantry, Company B. sent to Ft. Crook Neb., and in the early part of 1941 was transferred to CA., and for 18 months served as an MP for the prison. He was then transferred to the Air Corps and sent to Will Rogers Field OK., he then signed up and was puit in the 44th Bomb Group, 67th Bomb Squadron of the 8th Air Force. Harry was in the European Theater of Peration during WWII. He was a Flight Engineer and Gunner on a B-24, and a truck mechanic in the motor pool. Harry received his honorable discharge on Sept. 12, 1945 at Ft. McArthur, CA. He received He received ribbons for European Theater, Presidential citation with 2 oak leaf clusters, 1 silver star, 4 bronze stars, air medal, pearl harbor, and the good conduct ribbon. Harry returned to Raytown, and in 1956 moved to Oak Grove MO., where they lived for 6 years before moving to Pleasant Hill. After his wife passing he moved to Harrisonville, and met Nedra Dennerline Emmart and moved to Paola. He worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital and also Cotters hardware before retiring. He then started his own lawnmower repair business in Paola before failing health of he and his wife retired. Harry enjoyed listening to music, singing in the Amazing Grace Chorus, reading, collecting salt dishes, antiques and camping with family. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Eagles , and the American Legion. Proceeding him in death were his parents, three wives, Ida, Doris, and Nedra. Survivors are his children, son Harry Louis Volland, dau., Veronica Corlew, Loretta Caine, dau., Rebecca Ralston son, Tom Volland, and Deborah Early . Grandchildren, and Nedra"s Nieces, Cathy Stirewalt, Karen Wilks, Patty Nelson, and Judy Amspacker.
