Harry Eugene Shaver, 90, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1320 W. 15th, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment Peoria Cemetery, Franklin County, Kansas with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Harry was born January 3, 1929, in Lansing, Kansas, the son of Harry Francis and Burretta (Moser) Shaver. He lived in Olathe, Kansas from 1954 to 1967 moving to Ottawa in 1967. He graduated from Lansing High School with the class of 1946. Harry served in the United States Army from March 1951 to March 1953 attaining the rank of Corporal (CPL). Harry was united in marriage to Nancy Fay Newton August 13, 1950, in Leavenworth, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include six children, Debi Thompson, Linda Younkin, Jan Lee Bryan, Fay Bryan all of Ottawa, Keith Shaver and wife Lisa of Emporia, and Ken Shaver and wife Shelly of Springfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Ann Riedenger and Barbara Box; brother, Richard Shaver; grandson, Michael Thompson; son-in-law, Bill Younkin; daughter, Patricia Rose Shaver; and granddaughter, Margaret Lee Maichel. Harry started working as a meat cutter in the late 1940s to mid-1950s. In 1958, he became a mail carrier and worked for the Olathe and Paola post offices, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Harry loved spending time with his family and grandchildren at their many family gatherings. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, grilling and smoking meats, raising cattle, farming, and motorcycles.
