Harry E. Brown, age 91, of Ottawa, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 1, 2010. He was born on Friday, April 5, 1918, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Edward Louis and Nellie Leora (McClellan) Brown. He was a lifelong resident of Ottawa. Harry attended Ottawa schools. Harry owned and operated Brown’s Hardware located at 1540 S. Main in Ottawa, twenty-eight years, retiring in 1978. When he was young, he was employed by his father at Brown’s Grocery in north Ottawa. He also worked as a sales person for several years at Minnick Motors in Ottawa and Ottawa Hardware. During World War II, he was a supervisor in the nitroglycerin department at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in Desoto, Kansas. He was a former member of Ottawa Country Club, North Baptist Church and Ottawa Lodge #18, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. On Monday, October 16, 1939, Harry was united in marriage with Frances Marceline Rice in Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2003. He is survived by his Daughter-Jill Ann Reimer and her husband, Don, of Spring, Texas; Daughter-Janice Marie McCarson and her husband, O. M. “Mac”, of Arlington, Texas; Son-Fred H. Brown of Branson, Missouri; Sister-Billie Jean VanLeiden and her husband, Tony, of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandson-Jeffrey H. Reimer; Grandson-Todd Edward Reimer; Grandson-Matthew McCarson; Gt.Grandson-Brooks Reimer; Gt.-Grandson-Blake Reimer; Gt.-Granddaughter-Maddison McCarson; Nephew-Tim VanLeiden and his wife, Melissa and Nephew-Ricky VanLeiden. He is preceded in death by his Wife-Frances Marceline Brown; Father-Edward Louis Brown; Mother-Nellie Leora (McClellan) Brown and Infant Sister-Cleo Nell Brown. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. IN STATE: Mr. Brown will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening.
