Harry E. (Gene) Cardwell, 81, Louisburg, KS died August 27, 2015 at Olathe Medical Hospice House. Gene was born March 26, 1934 in Brown County, KS. He was the younger of two children born to George W. and Cora May (Harris) Cardwell. His father passed away when he was three months old. He proudly served his country in the Navy from 1952 to 1957, at which time he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Betty Louise Woods on January 2, 1956 in Las Vegas. After his discharge, they made their home in Kansas City, KS. They became parents of one son, Danny W. Cardwell. Gene worked for over 35 years at W.P. Stark Lumber as the warehouse foreman. After retirement, in 1996, Gene and Betty moved to Louisburg to be closer to Dan and his family. Although, sitting around in retirement was not Gene"s style. He worked at various places in Louisburg including Gabriel"s, Timber Creek, Price Chopper as well as a handyman that could fix dang near anything. Gene was a hard-working man with an unparalleled work ethic, who enjoyed being outside in the sunshine. He could build amazing things with wood and did it without any plans. From kitchen cabinets, hutches, room additions, sheds tables" the list goes on and on. Gene and Betty enjoyed setting in the driveway, waving at everybody that passed. We called them the south side Louisburg Greeters. Above all else he loved his wife and family. He was happiest when he had the whole family gathered. He certainly knew how to spoil his grandkids. He loved them beyond measure and they certainly love their Poppy. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Shirley Gregory and granddaughter Catherine Cardwell. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; son, Danny (Cheri) Cardwell, Louisburg, KS; Grandchildren, Joe Cardwell and Willie Cardwell, Paola, KS; Mike Cardwell and Karen Cardwell, Louisburg, KS and Dale Cardwell (Tiffany Goddard) Cleveland, MO; and great grandchildren, Audrina Cardwell, Nevada, MO, Barrett Cardwell and Taliah Hays, Cleveland, MO.
