Harold Wayne Richards was born on Wednesday, November 14, 1928, in Elk County, Kansas. He was the son of James Robert and Nancy Belle (Morgan) Richards. A near lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, Harold made his home in Rantoul until his death on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at the age of eighty-two years. Harold worked as a heavy equipment operator and in construction for Holland Construction of Lenexa, Kansas. He also worked for Caylor Construction of Ottawa, retiring on November 13, 1989. He served from 1946 until 1948 in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. Harold was a member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, both of Ottawa. Harold was very devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. On July 3, 1950, Harold was united in marriage with Agnes A. Byrn in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1992. He is also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rex Richards, Ernest Richards, Melvin Marvin Richards; four sisters, Ruby Anderson, Lucille Christmas, Mary Hickox, Myrtle Marie Richards; and great-grandson, Joseph Thomas Lickteig. Harold is survived by his son, Dennis Richards and his wife, Wanda, of Ottawa, Kansas; daughter, Debra Fisher and her husband, Ed, of Rantoul, Kansas; four grandchildren, Thomas Fisher, Amy Roberts, April Lickteig, Laura Richards; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for Graveside Services at Ruhamah Cemetery in Rantoul, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011. IN STATE: Mr. Richards will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
