Harold graduated from Parsons High School with the class of 1948, and received a business degree from Parsons Junior College in 1950. National Gypsum Company, Parsons, Kansas employed him, from 1950 to 1953. In 1955, he was employed by the Gas Service Company, Kansas City, Kansas, as a consumer service sales representative, transferring to Ottawa in 1960, until his retirement in 1988. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1950 to 1953, and on active duty from 1953 to 1955, during the Korean War, with his tour of duty including Germany. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lions Club, Gas Company Retirees, Library Board, COF Training Services Board, and the coffee klatch at Horseshoe Cafe; and served as president of Sacred Heart School PTO and OID, all of Ottawa. A golf enthusiast, Harold enjoyed watching, as well as playing, the game. He also enjoyed making golf clubs. His yard was his passion'.the mowing was always done just so'.the trimming was a work of art. He never cooked except for something cooked on the grill, but he was very adept at running the carpet sweeper. Actually, this is a Gahagan trait. His family was a very important part of his life. On August 3, 1957, Harold was united in marriage with Gretchen Glick at Pittsburg, Kansas. She survives of their home. Also, surviving are two daughters, Teresa Calvert and her husband, George, of Overland Park, Bridget Gahagan of Mission; son, Patrick Gahagan and his wife, Karen, of Overland Park; two sisters, Mary Esther Ramsey of Parsons, Kathryn Holland of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Col. James Donald Gahagan of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; stepsister, Clarice Hammett of Coronado, California; two grandsons, Geoffrey and Brady Calvert; two granddaughters, Erin and Aubrey Gahagan; and one foster granddaughter. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, 2001, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2001, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. Steven Beseau, Celebrant will be officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery on Thursday, April 26, at 11:30 AM. Memorials can be sent to Sacred Heart Parish Center Building Fund or the American Liver Foundation Pallbearers will be: Joe Ramsey, Steve Ramsey, Ray Cullings, Casey Ramsey, Dustin Barnhart, Michael Ramsey. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bob Dillon, Jack Davis, Joe O`Hara, Hugh Didier, Allen Lloyd, Bob Wiggins, Walt Artinger, Larry Wassmer.
