Harold Dean Vail

Harold Dean Vail was born September 28, 1918, at Richmond, Kansas. He was the son of Marion and Blanche (Mills) Vail. In 1981, he moved from Cimarron to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home, until his death Sunday, September 14, 2003, at the age of eighty-four years. He was a lifelong farmer. Harold enjoyed the outdoors and caring for his garden, with tomatoes being his specialty. He was also quite a handyman and could repair anything. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching T.V. and was an avid sports fan. On September 12, 1955, Harold was united in marriage with Ella Mae Herron at Dodge City, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by his son, Eugene A. Vail, of Ottawa; daughter, Joann Hamilton, of Ottawa; two sisters, Doris Hicks, of Ottawa, Emma Jayne Stottlemire, of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Anthony Vail and Junior Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Illa Mae Whirley and Evelyn Vail. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Ruhamah Cemetery 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Scott Dickinson. IN STATE: Mr. Vail will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to American Diabetes Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
