Harold Everett Curtis, age 89, of Taylors, South Carolina, formerly of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, South Carolina. He was born on Thursday, February 12, 1920, in Rantoul, Kansas. He was the son of Roy Everett and Anna Joanna (Buss) Curtis. Harold grew up and lived in Franklin and Miami Counties prior to his military service and in Ottawa after 1945. He moved to Taylors, South Carolina in March of 2001 to live with his daughter. He attended several country schools in Franklin County and graduated from Lane High School with the class of 1940. Harold worked twenty-six years as a sign printer for National Sign Company in Ottawa, retiring in 1996. He worked for Bennett's Creamery from 1965 until they closed in 1970, doing a variety of jobs including canning ice cream, cleaning and making butter. Prior to 1965, he was a farmer. Harold served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, in the European Theater of Operations. He attained the rank of Private First Class and served in the Military Police Guard Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. In April of 1960, Harold was united in marriage with Annie Jean Seibel in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death March 4, 1984. Harold is survived by his: Son-Keith Paul Curtis of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter-Melinda Kay Bluff & her husband, Earle, of Taylors, South Carolina Son-Reggie Eugene Curtis of Ottawa, Kansas Brother-Fred Curtis & his wife, Sally, of North Kansas City, Missouri Sister-Fern Curtis of Ottawa, Kansas Grandson-Aaron Daniel Bluff of Taylors, South Carolina He is preceded in death by his: Wife-Annie Jean (Seibel) Curtis Father-Roy Everett Curtis Mother-Anna Joanna (Buss) Curtis Son-Gerald Ray Curtis Daughter-in-law-Barbara Curtis SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2009. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Curtis after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary until the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: Memorial contributions may be made to Aaron Bluff Education Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
