Harmon Williams of Ardmore, OK died peacefully in his sleep on June 9th after a sudden illness. Mr. Williams, one of ten children in an extended family, was born near Agricola, KS to Bill and Francis (Arnett) Williams. A former Williamsburg, KS resident, he wed Terry McDonald in Alaska and they were married 41 years until her death in 1993. Williams was a WWII Veteran who entered the armed forces via the Naval Air Corp, served aboard the USS Waller, and remained involved with aviation most of his life. He worked as an administrator with the Federal Aviation Agency for over thirty years. In “retirement” he did administrative work for school systems and finished his active work career as the Ground School Principal for American Flyers of Ardmore. His interests included many civic and professional organizations, the First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore where he had served as an Elder, and especially his family. Harmon is survived by his son Doug and Wife Madella; his daughter Erin; two granddaughters and their spouses, Tara & Shane and Sabra two great grandchildren Katherine and Isaac; a brother Knowlton and his wife Maudie; a sister-in-law Ina; a host of nieces, nephews, and their families; as well as numerous friends. Giffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home of Ardmore and Dengel & Son Mortuary of Ottawa, KS will facilitate arrangements with services and inurnment at the Pleasant View Cemetery near Agricola, KS on Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested for the Ardmore Veterans Center or the First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore. Harmon’s friends have noted that they will especially remember his infectious laugh, his sense of humor, his self discipline and his deep integrity.
