Funeral services for Harlan Dalton Page, age 81, of Ottawa, who died Wednesday, November 19, Harlan Dalton Page, age 81, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from a stroke. He was born in Pomona, Kansas to George Abraham and Lottie Fay (Hoopes) Page on November 5, 1927, and was the oldest of four children. He attended Baxter School and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1945. On November 9, 1947 he married Elizabeth Rose Nichols in Ottawa. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters. Harlan was a lifelong dairy farmer and involved in many local, state, and national farm related activities. In 81 years he had many notable accomplishments. He was instrumental in organizing small Kansas dairy cooperatives into the MidAmerican Dairy Association, which later became Dairy Farmers of America, and served on the corporate board for many years. Hoard’s Dairyman magazine honored him with the Kansas Distinguished Dairyman Award in 1988. Other board positions he held were with the Kansas City Dairy Council, Farm Bureau, and Ottawa Coop. Locally, Harlan was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and a lifetime member of First Christian Church where he taught Sunday School for over twenty years and also held many leadership roles. In Ottawa Township he was an original member of Rural Water District #7, treasurer of Ottawa Township, charter member of Clover Leaf 4-H Club, and sexton of Evergreen Mound Cemetery. He will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth, his daughters Linda (David) Alderman, Jan (Joe) Lorenzen, Barbara (Carl Ringler) Page and Ellen (Dr. Dennis) Cooley. His eight grandchildren, Angie Davis, Patrice Peoples, Erik Servatius, Alex Alderman, Anne, Mary, Denny, and Kate Cooley and eight great grandchildren will miss their Grandpa Page. He was preceded in death by a brother Jack and is survived by a sister Norma (Don) Waymire, a brother Keith (Betsy) Page, and a sister-in-law Marilyn Brokow. Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008. Friends may pay their respects from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary where the family will meet with friends from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in Evergreen Mound (Baxter) Cemetery, northwest of Ottawa, with graveside Masonic services by Ottawa Lodge #18, A.F. & A.M.
