It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Greta Louise Petty, 90, of Mission, Kansas. Greta passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
A Celebration of Life will be held 5:00pm, Friday, June 28, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends following the service.
Greta was born Sunday, November 19, 1933, in Independence, Kansas, the daughter of Neil and Florence (Springer) Henry.
She lived in Mission, Kansas for the last seven years moving there from Peachtree City, Georgia where she lived for fifteen years. Greta also resided in Ottawa, Kansas from 1970 to 1984.
Greta graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1951.
She was united in marriage on December 31, 1951, in Washington to James E. Petty. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.
Greta worked at Woolworth Department Store in the early 1970s at the lunch counter; was employed with King Radio as a supervisor from the mid-1970s to early 1980s; and worked as a real estate agent for twenty-eight years working for Lister Real Estate in the 1980s, JB Goodwin Real Estate in the 1990s in Round Rock, Texas, working in the late 1990s in Del Ray Beach, Florida, and completing her real estate career in Peachtree City, Georgia from 1997 to 2008.
She was a devoted mother cherishing every minute spent with her family and loved ones. Greta liked watching sports, including Royals, KU Basketball, and the Chiefs. She enjoyed showing her creativity by making flower arrangements and table top centerpieces. Greta loved her pet dog “Dusty”, but especially loved her family. grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Along with her husband James, Greta was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bill Henry; and infant son John Wesley Petty.
Survivors include sons Curtis Petty of Mission, Kansas, Tony Petty (Colleen) of Peachtree, Georgia, and James Petty of Mission, Kansas; daughters Susan White (Tab) of Ottawa, Kansas and Lisha Petty (John Mueller) of Palisade, Colorado; four grandchildren Trenton White of Topeka, Kansas, Lauren White of Ottawa, Kansas, Bryce Petty (Meredith) of Roswell, Georgia, and Kyle Petty (Olivia) also of Roswell, Georgia; and five great grandchildren Quinn, Ellie, Molly, Grace Ann and Lucy.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
