Gregory Scott Whiteford

GregoGregory Scott Whiteford, 56, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Family will meet with friends from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M., Friday, October 13, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:30 P.M., at the mortuary. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Scott was born October 20, 1960 in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was the son of James and Mary Anne (Oswald) Whiteford. After Scott’s father retired from the Navy in 1976, the family moved to Ottawa, where Scott made his home until his passing. Scott graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1978. He was a great cook. While in high school, Scott cooked for, and later owned, the Cozy Kitchen Cafe in Ottawa. He continued his restaurant career while attending Kansas State University in Manhattan. He was most recently employed by American Eagle in Ottawa. Scott loved to learn and read widely; history, sports, science and politics. He was a master chess player, Kansas City Royals fan, unbeatable at trivia games, loving son and brother and a compassionate human being. Scott is survived by mother, Mary Anne Whiteford of Ottawa; four siblings, Glenna Thurmes with husband Bill of Longmont, Colorado, Bethany Render of North Bend, Nebraska, Alexander Whiteford of The Woodlands, Texas, and Lawrence Martin Whiteford with wife Susan of St Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. Scott was preceded in death by his father, James Whiteford.
