Gracie Imogene Bittenbender

February 25, 1910 — March 12, 2007

Gracie I. Bittenbender was born on Friday, February 25, 1910, in Homewood, Kansas, the daughter of George and Ida (Bailey) Caple. She lived in the Ransomville area, moving to Williamsburg, Kansas in 1939, where she made her home until her death on Monday, March 12, 2007, at the age of ninety-seven years. Gracie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She enjoyed all her homemaking skills, especially cooking and baking, and was well known for her delicious pies! On April 20, 1929, Gracie was united in marriage with H. Sherman Bittenbender in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1980. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Anderson; two brothers, Ernest Caple, Henry Caple; and granddaughter, Kandee Crane. Mrs. Bittenbender is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Max Randel of Williamsburg, Kansas; granddaughter, Melodee Hill and her husband, Lillard, of Bakersfield, California; seven great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Nadine Caple. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2007. CEMETERY: Mt. Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg, Kansas.
