Grace E. Bennett

Grace Elizabeth Bennett, 94, of Osawatomie, KS, passed away November 10, 2019 in Paola, KS at North Point Skilled Nursing. Grace was born in Osawatomie, KS to Jerome and Martha Shultz on November 13, 1924. She went to high school at Ursuline Academy and graduated in May of 1942. Grace worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital as a mental health technician before retiring in 1990. She was a hard worker and raised her children as a single mother. She was loving and parented her children with practical advice often saying, “Don’t be a parasite!” She loved talking on the phone to friends and family for hours at a time. She regaled her listeners of stories from her work at the state hospital. She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, and loved spending time with her family. Grace is preceded in death by her parents Jerome and Martha; two brothers Standlee and James Shultz; one sister Dora Ruth Shultz; two daughters Deborah Bennett and Eileen Castleberry; one son Stephen Bennett; one granddaughter Brenda Castleberry; and one grandson Richard Castleberry. Grace is survived by two sons John “Web” Bennett III of Wichita, KS and Michael Bennett of Drexel, MO; one daughter Joan Denise Dolaway of Napanoch, NY; one grandson Kristopher Pivin of Troy, NY; two granddaughters Jamie Wirsig of Drexel, MO and Dana Phillips of Drexel, MO; and 7 great grandchildren Daryn Phillips, Ben Wirsig, Hyden Wirsig, Ally Phillips, Briana Phillips, Riley Phillips, and Reagan Wirsig; one brother Bill Shultz of Potwin, KS; two sisters Helen McDaniel, of Olathe, KS and Georgia Drew of Ellenville, NY.
