Gordon Gail Ellison was born Monday, May 21, 1928, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Carl Andrew and Florence May (Pingree) Ellison. Gordon grew up in the Greenwood Community, moving to Kansas City, Missouri. In the mid 1970's, he returned to the Greenwood Community, where he made his home until his death Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at the age of seventy-seven years. Gordon graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1946; attended Kansas Sate University one year; graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Engineering in the early 1950's; and later earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas-Missouri in the mid 1960's. In the 1960's and 1970's, he was employed in the engineering department of Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, Missouri. In the 1970's and 1980's, he worked in design and engineering for Trail Mobile Company in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1995, he was employed by Phoenix-Skyhook of Ottawa in drafting and design, retiring in 2004. Gordon served in the Army Air Force from July 25, 1946, to May 12, 1948. He was stationed in Japan, attainning the rank of Tech 5. He received decorations and citations including the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan, and Lapel Button. He was a member of the Oddfellow's Lodge, where he enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed his many years of service on the Greenwood Cemetery Board and took special care of the cemetery. Gordon spent many hours working on engines at home and could repair just about anything mechanical. He was continually reading technical books. Mr. Ellison is survived by his sister, Beverly Flager and her husband, Orville, of Ottawa, Kansas; nephew, Daryl L. Flager and his wife, Virginia, of Emporia, Kansas; niece, Cathie Ann Thompson and her husband, Richard, of Lenexa, Kansas; and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Bob Miller. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Ellison at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Greenwood Cemetery.
