Glenna Lu “Susie” Whitacre, 88, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Graveside inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Susie was born January 30, 1934, in Rantoul, Kansas, the daughter of Fred H. and Leola (Kinder) Meador. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident, living most of her life in Ottawa. On April 6, 1952, Susie was united in marriage to William E. “Bill” Whitacre at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2018. Susie was a devoted lifelong homemaker and was employed in the early 1950’s at Drakes Bakery and from the mid to late 1980’s as a salesclerk at JCPenney’s She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ottawa Women’s Bowling Association, and the Ottawa Promenaders. Susie enjoyed cooking, square dancing, and her friends, family and grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by parents and brother, Charles Meador. Survivors include three children, Bruce Whitacre and wife Vicki of Ottawa, Keith Whitacre also of Ottawa, and Virginia Howe and husband Paul of Overland Park; six grandchildren, Brandon Whitacre and wife Stephanie of Olathe, Brodi Gallick and husband Blake of Aptos, California, Kyle Whitacre of Galena, Missouri, Derrek Whitacre also of Galena, Missouri, Sydney Howe of Overland Park, and Holly Howe also of Overland Park; and nine great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
