Glenn Mcdonald

Glenn McDonald, age 65, of rural Princeton, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, died June 3, 2014 at his home. Glenn was born August 5, 1948, at Kansas City, Kansas. He was the only child of Ralph and Catherine (Nevin) McDonald. Glenn was raised by his loving aunt and uncle, Thorton and Margaret Donnell. He grew up in Coffeyville and graduated from Coffeyville High School. Glenn served his country with the United States Army from March of 1972 until his honorable discharge in March of 1974. He was married to Janet Hulet and they became the parents of two daughters, Kim and Melanie. Their marriage ended in divorce. Glenn worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer. He was placed on medical retirement after 19 years of working on the railroad due to a back injury. Glenn was united in marriage to Cheryl (Banister) Bonner on April 1, 1989. They had met in 1976 and had a great friendship lasting years. Glenn maintained an extremely close relationship with Cheryl"s two sons, Jason and Michael Bonner. He was proud to be their dad. He enjoyed hunting pheasant, dove, and quail. He also enjoyed fishing for crappie. Glenn was just a couple ounces away from beating the state record for the largest crappie caught. Another of his favorite pastimes was cars. He liked hot rods. He rebuilt a number of cars from the frame up. He loved his pets, too. Most recently he had a black lab named Jake and a house cat named Val. His favorite canine sidekick was Gabby, a poodle/cocker mix. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Cheryl of the home; two sons Jason Bonner (Linda) of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Michael Bonner (Amber) of Spring Hill, Kansas; two daughters Kimberly Tatman (Trent) of Coffeyville and Melanie Atkins of St. Mary"s, Georgia; nine grandchildren; other relatives and friends. A luncheon will follow the celebration of life memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Glenn McDonald Memorial Fund which will be given to the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter and a medical expense fund for veterans.
