Gilbert Vivian Truman, 86, died peacefully in his home in Louisburg, KS Saturday, May 18, 2013. He was born in Grandview, Missouri on June 27, 1926, the youngest child of John Vivian and Luella (Campbell) Truman. His elementary schooling was at Rockford, a two roomed country school in the Hickman Mills, MO school district. He graduated in 1944 from Ruskin High School. After high school, Gilbert worked briefly for Jackson County, Missouri as a heavy equipment operator for road construction. Gilbert has always farmed. His earliest recollection was when he was 10, helping his father. He was using a team of mules named Pete and Tom with a single bottom plow breaking the ground. He continued farming with his father until his brother Harry returned from overseas after World War II. Harry and Gilbert began farming together, forming the Truman Brothers Farm. They ran a dairy, renting the land from their father, uncle and aunt near Grandview. They sold their milk to the Old Country Club Dairy in Kansas City. The brothers continued farming there until the land was sold for the Truman Corners Shopping Center. Harry and Gilbert began to farm north of Louisburg, KS in 1955. In the 1960's they switched their dairy operation to raising beef cattle. In 2005, Gilbert and his brother slowed down a bit by selling their cow herd, and then had an equipment sale on December 9, 2011. Gilbert married Alice Pauline Reynolds on November 30, 1946 at the United Brethren Church in Raymore, MO. They were blessed with a daughter, Anita LuAnn, in 1954. At the age of 14, Gilbert was baptized at the Community Christian Church Disciples of Christ, in Hickman Mills, MO. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents John Vivian and Luella Truman, two brothers J.C. and Fred Truman, two sisters Callie Louise Truman and Martha Ann Swoyer. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty six and a half years Pauline; daughter LuAnn (Ken) Keane; one grandson Daniel (Jenny) Keane and their children Hannah,John,and James;one granddaughter Anna (Steve) Bouchie and their children Emily, Elizabeth, Isaac, Milly, Susan, and Joseph; both grandchildren residing in the Wichita, KS area. Also surviving is a brother Harry (Dorothy) Truman, Louisburg; and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Memorial Contributions to the First Christian Church or to Gentiva Hospice.
