Gertrude “Trudy” Marlatte was born Gertrude Curtis February 28, 1922 in Roswell, New Mexico. She moved with her mother and three siblings to Illinois in 1927, spending most of her life in the Chicago area. She moved back to Roswell in the mid-1980’s, also spending time in Cathedral City, California before moving to Baldwin City, Kansas in 2005 and then Overland Park before moving to Wellsville Retirement Community where she died on Friday, May 14, 2021, at the age of ninety-nine years. She graduated from Morgan Park High School, Chicago, Illinois in 1940. She worked in banking for many years before opening a golf and tennis shop in Flossmore, Illinois. In her retirement she did marketing for Outdoor Resorts in Cathedral City, California. In May 1942, Gertrude married Robert J. Marlatte at Parkwood Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. While living in Kansas she became a member of First Baptist Church, Ottawa, Kansas. Trudy was an avid golfer all her life. She also enjoyed drawing and painting, writing stories and poems, making cards on her computer for friends and family. Trudy is survived by her daughter, Sandra Marlatte of Lawrence, Kansas, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amelia and Walter Curtis; stepfather, Charles Ecklund; and her husband Bob. Memorial gifts may be made payable to LL Dog Rescue in honor of her Gracie who laid by her side until the end. Trudy never hesitated to tell people Gracie was a rescue dog.
