Gertrude M. Durdee, 92, Louisburg, KS, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Louisburg Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Monday September 8, 2008 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wea, KS. Burial in the Louisburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at Penwell " Gabel Louisburg Chapel. Memorial Contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice or the Louisburg Library in care of the Funeral Home. Mrs. Durdee was born August 16, 1916 in Kansas City, MO. She was adopted by George and Sarah Hand Worthington at 9 months of age. Gertrude graduated from Louisburg High School in 1934. In 1936, she married Don Durdee. They were married 22 years until his death in 1958. She was head cook at Louisburg High School and later Lunchroom Supervisor for the Louisburg School District. She operated the 69 Grill and then the Main Street Caf". In 1978 she was chosen Woman of the Year by Louisburg chapters of Beta Sigma Phi. After retiring from the restaurant business, she was an administrative assistant at City Hall. Her final calling was as a Foster Grandmother at Louisburg Elementary School. Gertrude was an avid reader all her life and enjoyed quilting before her eyesight failed. Survivors are her children, John Durdee of Kansas City, MO; Bob Durdee and wife Chris of Paola, KS; and Joanne Seck and husband Ed of Bucyrus, KS. Nine grandchildren and Thirteen great grandchildren.
