Geraldine Fae “Gerry” Bromert, 76, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Private inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Gerry was born at home Saturday, November 9, 1940, in Alma, Kansas, the daughter of Loren Dale and Pearle Mae (Coffman) Dunn. They lived in Alma for about three years before moving to a large farm southwest of Junction City, Kansas. She attended grades one through three in a first through eighth grade one-room schoolhouse. Her family then moved to town where she attended grades four and five. In September of 1951, they moved to a farm between Pomona and Williamsburg, where she started school as a sixth grader at Williamsburg. She was one of 20 students, graduating from Williamsburg High School in the class of 1958. Gerry married Kenneth Ray Norton September 21, 1958, at Pomona Methodist Church. He preceded her in death June 15, 1967. She married Eugene Joseph Bromert March 6, 1970, at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Bromert of Ottawa; son, Mark Bromert of Kansas City, Kansas; son-in-law, Duane Douglas of Ottawa; four grandsons, Aaron Douglas, Neal Douglas, Ryan Douglas and wife Renee and Mark Douglas all of Ottawa; sister, Virginia Gifford of San Antonio, Texas. Her children and grandsons were the light of her life! She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Douglas; parents, Loren and Pearle Dunn; and brother, Joe Dunn. Gerry was a former Girl Scout troop leader, 4-H project leader, chairman of the Ottawa Christian Women’s Club, past Matron of Sadana Chapter 194 Order of Eastern Star, Williamsburg. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa. Gerry was a devoted and loving homemaker. Her priority was being the best wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, canning, flower and vegetable gardens and keeping her house clean. She loved having family and friends in her home and was known for hosting Christmas parties. Gerry made many contributions to churches and local organizations including, MJAA and David Wilkerson ministries.
