Geraldine "Gerry" Louise Dial, age 81, of Paola, Kansas, died June 14, 2013 at her home. Gerry was born January 17, 1932 at Garnett, Kansas. She was the daughter of Roy Waldo and Mildred Florence (Nickelson) Plaisted. Gerry grew up on a farm near Garnett until the family moved to Osawatomie on Pearl Harbor Day. Gerry was united in marriage to Ray Lowell Dial on July 9, 1955 at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Osawatomie. They became the parents of six children. Gerry was a homemaker. She also was a babysitter, offering child care services in her home for many years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Osawatomie where she was also involved in the MERA Sunday School class. Gerry enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals, win or lose, completing crossword puzzles, reading, and playing cards with family and friends. She especially enjoyed hosting large family dinners. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Roy Robert Plaisted and Paul Wesley Plaisted, one sister, Mary Jean Price, and two sons, Steve Dial and Tony Dial. She is survived by her husband Ray of the home; one daughter, Cindy Lou Dial of Paola; three sons, Gary Ray Dial of O"Fallon, Illinois, Kevin Alan Dial of Paola, and Brian Kent Dial of Osawatomie; one sister, Joanne Pritchard of Paola; two brothers, Ronald Lyle Plaisted of Lane and Larry Dale Plaisted of Kansas City, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Contributions in memory of Gerry can be made to the American Heart Association, First Baptist Church of Osawatomie, or Olathe Medical Center Hospice.
