Gerald Keith Winterscheidt

Gerald Keith Winterscheidt passed away at his home on March 5, 2017. Born in Sabetha, Kansas on March 29, 1930 to Savilla and Elmer Winterscheidt, Gerald grew up in Seneca, Kansas and graduated from Saints Peter and Paul High School in 1948. He briefly attended Kansas State University before serving first in the Army, and later in the Navy as a Seabee in the Pacific. After his return to Seneca, he partnered with his father Elmer and brother Ken in running the Winterscheidt Milling Company for many years. Following the sale of the family business, Gerald worked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before moving back to Kansas, where he worked in both Chanute and Parsons. He married Ruth Reynolds in 2000 and they enjoyed the next 17 years together, traveling the world, running a bike repair shop, and holding semi-annual garage sales in Paola, Kansas. Gerald will be remembered as a gregarious storyteller with an adventurous spirit. He encouraged his children to dream big. Gerald is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Ruth; his children Laurie, Becky, Amy, John and Sarah; his many grandchildren; his sister Shirley Block; his step-children Frank and Valerie; his nine step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. Gerald was predeceased by his brother Ken and his sister Bonnie. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 E. Chippewa St., Paola, KS.
