Georgia S. Miller, 92, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 2, 2019 at Pomona United Methodist Church, with services by Union Chapter No. 15, Order of the Eastern Star, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Georgia was born February 26, 1927 in Thermopolis, Wyoming, the daughter of Oscar and Nida (Smith) Simonson. She lived in Pomona, Kansas during the 1950’s moving to Colorado. In 1965, Georgia returned to Pomona where she made her home until her death. Georgia graduated from Hot Springs Colorado High School with the class of 1945. She attended the University of Wyoming from 1945 to 1947 earning her teaching certificate. Georgia graduated in 1958 from Colorado State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and later graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Master of Arts in Education. She was united in marriage to Gene Clifford Miller December 21, 1947 in Thermopolis, Wyoming. He survives of the home. Other survivors include children, Michael G. Miller and his wife Patti of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gary C. Miller and his wife Pam of Ottawa, Charlene Howard and her husband John of Ravenna, Ohio and Kris Miller of Pomona; brother, Adrian Simonson and his wife Lynda of Casper, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Phillip Simonson, Donald Simonson, Kenneth Simonson, Lyle Simonson, Norval Simonson, Wayne Simonson, and Thayne Simonson; and sister, Ada McIntyre. Georgia dedicated her working life to teaching children. She worked 32 years as an educator; 25 of those years at Lyndon High School teaching business retiring in May 1990. She was a life member of the Pomona Chapter No. 305 Order of the Eastern Star from 1952 to 2008. She was a member of Union Chapter No. 15 OES of Ottawa from 2009, Home Demonstration Unit, Harmony Homes, National Education Association, Boyd Ladies Aide, Thursday Pitch Players of Pomona, Past Matrons Club and Red Hats. Georgia was also a member of the Pomona United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and a volunteer Sunday school teacher and Head Start Reader. Georgia enjoyed spending time reading, water & oil painting and tending to her collections.
