George William Franks, Jr., age 92, of Ottawa, formerly of Quenemo, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on Sunday, May 19, 1918, in Hill City, Kansas, the son of George William Franks, Sr. and Stella Alice (Wollem) Franks. In 1936, he moved to Ottawa from Limon, Colorado, and Quenemo in February of 1984. George attended schools in Limon, Colorado. He worked in road construction, retiring in 1973 due to health issues. On September 16, 1943, George was united in marriage with Alice Carrie Anderson in Cherryville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2007. Survivors include;Daughter, Peggy Fellers and her husband, Glen, of Burlington, Kansas; Daughter,Margaret Nicholson and her husband, Gary O., of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter, Shirley Elder and her husband, Richard L. of Ottawa, Kansas; Son, George Franks and his wife, Libby, of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter, Stella Heuer and her husband, David, of Melvern, Kansas; Son, Virgil Franks and his wife, Dena, of Melvern, Kansas; Daughter, Mary Humerickhouse and her husband, Randy, of Olathe, Kansas; Sister, Helen Blazer of Limon, Colorado; Sister, Violet Pirkle of Peratta, New Mexico; Sister, Dorothy Johnson of Denver, Colorado; Twenty-three Grandchildren Fifty-four Gt.Grandchildren; Thirteen Gt. Gt.Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by; Parents, George William Franks, Sr. and Stella Alice Franks ;Infant Son, Larry Franks; Twin Sisters, Della May “Peggy” and Louella Fay Franks; Brother, J. R. Franks; Brother,Darold Franks Brother, Chuck Franks. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011. IN STATE: Mr. Franks will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
