George W. Miller, 82, of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Family will meet with friends from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. George was born Tuesday, September 19, 1933, in rural Wellsville, the son of Frank and Ethel (Grauel) Miller. He was a lifelong rural Wellsville resident. He was a 1951 graduate of Ottawa High School. George proudly served his country in the United States Army as a military policeman during the Korean conflict from 1955 to 1957. George married Colette Craig November 9, 1952, in Wellsville. Together they raised two daughters, Rhonda Miller of Palm Coast, Florida and Diane Harrington of Belton, Missouri. He is survived by his wife Colette Miller, Rhonda Miller, Diane Harrington and husband Todd; grandchildren Courtney Harrington and Aaron Harrington; nephews Bill Craig and Ted Sutton, Jr.; and niece Debi McCullough. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Esther Sutton; and niece, Joy Dunlap. As a lifelong farmer, his tireless commitment was for cattle and his land, passing on his love of the land and nature to his daughters and grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where over the years he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and deacon. George will be most remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved his family, his community and his country. He was always ready to assist and help anyone in need.
