George V. Bowman

George Valentine Bowman was born May 30, 1929, at Pomona, Kansas. He was the son of John Valentine and Pansy Awilda (Hutchinson) Bowman. A lifelong resident, George made his home in the Pomona, Kansas area, until his death Wednesday, January 2, 2002, at the age of seventy-two years. George attended North Pomona Grade School and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1946. George was a lifelong farmer and worked thirty-four years at Bennett's Creamery, retiring in 1991. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the Co L 86th Infantry Regiment. George was a member of Pomona United Methodist Church, 4-H Extension Council, the Franklin County Fair Board, Warren Black Post #60, American Legion, Ottawa, and former member of the Kansas Pork Producer's Association and Missouri Valley Wrench Club. He was also a 4-H leader and donated to all types of 4-H programs. He enjoyed collecting antique tools and farm machinery, especially, wrenches, and going to the Overbrook sale on Mondays. He also enjoyed going to coffee with all his friends at Pomona. On March 12, 1950, George was united in marriage with Eileen Cain at Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of Ottawa. Also, surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Jamison and her husband, Wes, of Centropolis; son, Kevin Bowman and his wife, Angel, of Pomona; two sisters, Audrey Priebe and her husband, Bill, of Osage City, Belva Scheid and her husband, Gerald, of Vassar; and, three grandchildren, Misty Johnson, Jamie Jamison and Angie Jamison. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Bowman; and sister, Dorothy Lindsey. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2002, Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Glen Yancey. IN STATE: Mr. Bowman will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends 2:00 p.m. Sunday. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Franklin County 4-H, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
