George Edward Trendel

George Edward Trendel was born on Saturday, April 22, 1916, in Vassar, Kansas. He was the son of Joseph and Erna (Schmidt) Trendel. He lived in Osage County, Kansas most of his life, moving to Pomona, in Franklin County, Kansas following his retirement until his death on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the age of ninety-one years. Ed graduated from Michigan Valley High School with the class of 1934. For many years, Ed farmed. He also worked twenty years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Pomona Lake as an equipment operator, retiring in the mid 1980's. He served many years on the Michigan Valley, Appanoose and Pomona School Boards. Ed was very proud of his family and greatly enjoyed their family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and watching baseball games. On October 13, 1938, Ed was united in marriage with Bertha Gates in Topeka, Kansas. They celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Ruth Trendel, of Pomona; two brothers, Dean Trendel of Ottawa, Kansas, Robert Trendel and his wife, Sally, of Burlington, Kansas; sister, Esther Buell of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Doug Trendel, Raymond Trendel; two sisters, Frances Barnhart, Margaret Athon; and daughter-in-law, Norma Trendel. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Trendel at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
