George Edward 'Ed' Lilly, 88 ,of Ottawa, Kansas died on Friday, June 3, 2005 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe,Kansas. He was the son of Edward Lilly(deceased) and Viola (Daugherty) Lilly(deceased). He was born on Thursday, February 15, 1917, in Sylvia,Kansas. Ed was a near lifelong Ottawa resident, living here since 1926. He attended rural schools. Ed was a Master Plumber, working ten years for Durbin Plumbing in Ottawa, nine years for Norris Brothers Plumbing Company in Lawrence, Kansas, and ten years as Plumbing Supervisor at Osawatomie State Hospital in Osawatomie, Kansas, retiring March 1, 1982. Following his retirement, he worked on staff at First Baptist Church in Ottawa for ten years as maintenance mechanic. Mr. Lilly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, from October of 1942 to February of 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Warren Black Post #60, American Legion, both of Ottawa. On July 15, 1939, Ed was united in marriage with Doris Illene Hamby at Mound City, Kansas. They celebrated their 65th anniversary. She survives of their home. Survivors include: Wife-Doris Illene (Hamby) Lilly of Ottawa, Kan. Daughter & husband-Susan & Paul 'Pete' Schuster of Larned, Kan. Sister-Wilma Jean Burgoon of Ottawa, Kan. Granddaughter-Miranda Wilhelm of Shawnee, Kan. Grandson-Chuck Schuster of Burlington, Kan. Granddaughter-Amy Harris of Emporia, Kan. Granddaughter-Emily Schuster of Larned, Kan. Nieces & Nephews-Several He was preceded in death by: Father-Edward Francis Lilly Mother-Viola Janett (Daugherty) Lilly Brother-Charles Lilly Brother-Lawrence Lilly Brother-Vaughn Lilly Brother-William Lilly Sister-Frances Lucas Sister-Maxine Bond SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2005. OFFICIANT: Rev. Joel Fredrikson. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Lilly from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and 9:00 a.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. Military services by Warren Black Post #60, American Legion of Ottawa.
