George Edward Lang, 85, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Pleasant View Cemetery, Melvern, Kansas, with services by the Melvern Lodge No. 22 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. George was born December 16, 1935 in Princeton, Kansas, the son of William “Bill” and Lucille (McCurdy) Lang. He spent his childhood going to school in Ottawa, Kansas. His family then moved to Melvern where he graduated from Melvern High School with the class of 1953 and met the love of his life Janet Johansen. On November 26, 1955, at Melvern, they were united in marriage. They moved to Olathe in 1957 and had 65 wonderful years together. He worked for the State of Kansas as a Highway Construction Inspector for 13 years and after leaving went on to become President of Westside Construction in Kansas City, Kansas. George also worked for several other heavy highway construction companies, asphalt companies and bridge construction companies. He managed and started Olathe All Pro Construction for the late KC Chiefs player Buck Buchanan until his retirement in 2011. George enjoyed many things, playing poker with friends, KC Chiefs, KC Royals, drinking Scotch, and watching all his grandchildren play in his pool. He was an avid member of the Abdallah Overland Park Shriners and yes, he drove for the little yellow truckers. He was awarded a 60-year membership from the Masonic Melvern Lodge No. 22, A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his parents. George is survived by his wife Janet Lang of the home; two sons, Mike (Lori) Lang of Leawood, and Randy (Threasa) Lang of Gardner; three daughters, Joyce (Scott) Garman of Wellsville, Debbie Underwood of Illinois, and Pam (Chuck) Lockey of Gardner; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Rodgers, and Louise Lang both of Ottawa; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
