Gene Sherwood Corbin

August 17, 1941 — November 13, 2007

Gene Sherwood Corbin was born on Sunday, August 17, 1941, at Daviess County, Missouri. He was the son of Ray and Willie Arlene (Martin) Corbin. Gene grew up and lived in Missouri until moving to Franklin County, Kansas and lived in Ottawa until his death on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at the age of sixty-six years. Gene graduated from High School in Linneus, Missouri with the class of 1959. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa. Gene was a mechanic, working at the Ottawa CO-OP in the 1960's, and then twenty-three years for Firestone and seven years for Underwood Equipment, both also in Ottawa, retiring in the late 1990's. Gene enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and was a real 'people person'. His greatest love was his family. Gene was united in marriage with Kathy Reh. They were later divorced. On May 8, 1982 he was united in marriage with Shirley Troutman at Ottawa. She survives of their home. He is also survived by a daughter, Theresa Gooding of Topeka, Kansas, and three sons, Ron Corbin and his wife, Stacy, of St Louis, Missouri, Phil Corbin and his wife, Kathy, of Olathe, Kansas, and Bryan Corbin and his fianc', Carrie Smith, of Rosendale, Missouri; a sister, Mary Ellen Godsey, of Topeka, Kansas, two brothers, Floyd Corbin of Brookfield, Missouri and Harold Corbin of Illinois, and ten grandchildren. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Willie Corbin. SERVICES: Graveside funeral services will be held from the Highland Cemetery, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2007. IN STATE: Mr. Corbin will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9 a.m.to 9:00 p.m. on Friday. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery.
