GENE L. LIVINGOOD, Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. Family will meet with friends Thursday, October 31st from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary. The visitation will be followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Gene was born May 19, 1933 at Lincoln, Kansas, the youngest of four sons born to Roy and Belle (Metz) Livingood. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951 and was united in marriage with Gail Anderson of Beverly, Kansas in 1953. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he and his wife moved to the Johnson County, Kansas area in 1955. Gene enrolled at the Central Technical Institute and was hired by the Bendix Corporation in 1957 and retired after thirty-seven years as an Electronic Equipment Technician. Gene was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, a life member of the Kansas Trapshooters Association, and a sustaining member of the Kansas City Trapshooters Association at Smithville, Missouri. He started shooting in 1974 and had 207,750 targets registered in his lifetime. He enjoyed drag racing and was actively involved with his son and grandsons in the sport. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Gail, of their home; a son, Gene and wife Kathy of Ottawa; two daughters, Mary Gail Fleming and husband Martin of Pratt, Kansas and Connie Kay Dost and husband John of Spring Hill, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Michael Armstrong, Steven Livingood, Chris Livingood, Jessica Lee, Andrea Zajac, John Dost II and Sara Culp; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Zajac, Eric Zajac, Cassandra Lee and Garrison Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Belle Livingood; and three brothers, Herbert, Donald, and Lex Livingood.
