Gene C. Miller, 92, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 17, 2020 at Dengel & Son Mortuary with Masonic and military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Family will meet with friends from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the mortuary. Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Gene was born March 18, 1927 in Neosho, Missouri. He was the son of Harry and Rebecca (Chandler) Miller. Gene lived in Pomona, Kansas during the 1950’s before moving to Colorado. In 1965, he returned to Pomona where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming and became a certified welder while employed at the Kaiser Shipyards in Seattle, Washington. Gene served in the United States Army during the occupation of Japan right after World War II. After returning to Wyoming from overseas Gene was employed by Kiewit Construction. Gene also worked for Eaton Metal during his time in Colorado until he became a full-time farmer just prior to his return to Kansas. Gene was united in marriage to Georgia Elnora Simonson December 21, 1947 in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Georgia preceded Gene in death in November 2019. Survivors include four children, Michael G. Miller and wife Patti of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gary C. Miller and wife Pam of Ottawa, Charlene Howard and husband John of Ravenna, Ohio and Kris Miller of Pomona; sister, Betty Johnson of Overland Park; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman Miller and a sister, Sharon Anderson. He was a life member of the Masons McKinley Lodge No.41, A.F. & A.M. of Pomona and the Union Chapter No. 15, OES of Ottawa. Gene loved farming, collecting tractors, and was a dedicated husband to Georgia for 72 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
