Gary Wilson, 61, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa Family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2013. Gary was born on Sunday, June 24, 1951, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Ralph Owen and Amy May (Hoskinson) Wilson, Sr. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. He attended Ottawa High School. On September 29, 1972 Gary was united in marriage with Sherri Bond in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Brandi (Wilson) Weidner of Ottawa, Dawn Wilson-Brown and husband Mitch of Lenexa, Kansas, and Veronica Huffman and husband Shawn of Edgerton, Kansas; seven grandchildren, LaCole, Hunter and Payton Weidner, Noa and Iason Wilson-Brown, Kai and Kloey Huffman; four sisters, Phyllis Gearhart and husband Nelson of Turpin, Oklahoma, Marylou Baker, Ruby McKay and Judi Collins all of Ottawa; four brothers, Robert McCurdy and wife Kay of Ottawa, Eldon McCurdy and wife Sandy of Ottawa, Ralph Owen Wilson, Jr. and wife Janie of Pomona, and Mike Wilson of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Roberta Michaels, and brother, Loren McCurdy. Gary worked as a custodian for thirty years primarily in Wellsville and USD 290 Garfield Elementary retiring in July 2012. Each year Garfield Elementary presents the Garfield Distinguished Service Award to a 5th grader in honor of Gary.
