Gary Lee Sleichter was born on Friday, October 27, 1944, in Carlton, Minnesota. He was the son of Benjamin Edward 'Ben' and Violet Hazel (Lukins) Sleichter. Gary moved with his family from Minnesota to Pomona, Kansas in 1956, then to Quenemo, Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at the age of sixty-two years. Gary graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1962. Gary served in the United States Air Force from January of 1963 to February of 1967, with the 3210 Supply Squadron located in Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He was employed at Sunflower Ordinance Plant from 1967 to 1970; Martin Marietta Quarry 1970 to 1976; and Ottawa Truck, now known as Kalmar Industries, from 1976 until his death. Gary was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer, turkey and elk hunting with his family and friends. He also enjoyed scenic drives to the casino and, most important to Gary was time spent with his family. On July 5, 1968, Gary was united in marriage with Vickie Sue Campbell in Pomona, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by two daughters, Crystal Curtis and her husband, Richard, of Baldwin City, Kansas, Karoline Sleichter of Sedona, Arizona; two brothers, Dennis Sleichter and his wife, Sarah, of Kingsville, Missouri, Alan Sleichter of Newtown, Missouri; three sisters, Jeanette Peura and her husband, Jim, of Sandstone, Minnesota, Lois Mills of Sedona, Arizona, Bonnie Ferguson of Newtown, Missouri; sister-in-law, Scharlet Sleichter-Sherwood and her husband, Jay, of Milford, Kansas; grandchild, Chelsey Curtis; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur Sleichter and Benny Sleichter. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2007. The family will receive friends following the services. IN STATE: Cremation is planned.
