Gary L. Butts, 75, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2020, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Please wear a mask at the families request and feel free to bring a lawn chair. Gary was born July 18, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas, the son of Earl D. and Frances (Vanwinkle) Butts. He lived in Princeton, Kansas, moving in the early 1960’s to Ottawa. Gary was united in marriage to Charity Stewart July 26, 1965, at Salina, Kansas. She survives of the home. Gary began working for the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto, Kansas in the mid 1960’s to early 1970’s. He was later employed for the area COOP in sales from the early to mid-1970’s. In the late 1970’s, Gary worked for Farmland Muncie Feed Mill, until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ottawa. Gary enjoyed watching squirrels, golfing, and taking his annual fishing trip to Lafkin, Texas, with his best friend Bill Pyle and brother Earl Butts, Jr. and other family and friends. He was a people person and always enjoyed talking with neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joe, Ed, and Earl Jr. Survivors also include his three sisters, Arlene of Houston, Texas, Katherine of Troy, Texas, and Barbara also of Troy, Texas; many nieces and nephews including Robert (Jennifer) Johnson of Ottawa, and Douglas (Angie) Johnson of Waverly; and sisters-in-law, Jane Johnson of Ottawa, and Zelma Butts of Texas. The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
