Gary G. Cherney, 63, of Princeton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Family will meet with friends immediately following. Private inurnment Princeton Cemetery, to be held later. Gary was born October 30, 1956 in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Marvin E. and Thelma J. (Witt) Cherney. He lived in Gardner, Kansas for many years moving west of Ottawa. In 2002, Gary moved to Princeton where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Cuba High School, Cuba, Kansas with the class of 1974. Gary served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1974 to 2007 attaining the rank of Master Sgt. Gary was united in marriage to Lisa K. Hall April 25, 1981, in Agenda, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two children, Amanda Cherney of the home and Bruce Cherney of Gardner; two siblings, Judy Brunkow and husband Delbert of Tonganoxie and Paul Cherney of Concordia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Karen Davidson and Marvine Oliver. Gary worked in the Civil Service from the mid-1980’s until his retirement in 2012. He was employed at the New Century Army Reserve Center as a ground support mechanic in charge of inventory and the dispatching of fuel. He was a current member of the Warren Black Post 60, American Legion of Ottawa, serving as Chaplain; current member of the Power of the Past Antique Engine & Tractor Club; and former member of the Friends of the FFA. Gary enjoyed antique tractors, hunting, fishing and fabricating. He was an outdoorsman and all-around handyman. Above all, Gary loved spending time with his family.
