Gary Maxwell, age 72, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on Wednesday, February 1, 1939, in Ottawa, the son of Richard and Alice (Fouts) Maxwell. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. Gary graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1956. He was an iron worker in the Kansas City metropolitan area; worked for Bendix Aviation of Kansas City, Missouri; was a pipeline patrol pilot for Lehman Flying Service in Kansas City, from 1966 to 1969; and, in 1969, started his own business, Maxwell Flight Service, retiring in 1998. He served from 1956 to 1962 in the United States Air Force Reserves, serving six months active duty. He attended the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ottawa. On May 16, 1964, Gary was united in marriage with Marion Poss at Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Kansas. She resides at their home in Ottawa. Gary had a passion for traveling. He saw the world with his wife, Marion, creating many memories. He loved fishing, flying, and late in life discovered powered para-gliding. Of greatest importance to Gary was spending time with his family. He is survived by his: Wife-Marion Maxwell of their home Son-George Maxwell and his wife, Julie, of Baldwin City, Kansas Brother-Gene Maxwell and his wife, Pat, of Ottawa, Kansas Sister-Judy Froggatte and her husband, Ken, of Ottawa, Kansas Aunt-Norma Howard of Ottawa, Kansas Grandson-Trent Maxwell Granddaughter-Taylor Maxwell Nieces & Nephews-Many Cousins-Many He was preceded in death by his: Parents-Richard and Alice Maxwell SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. IN STATE: Mr. Maxwell will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
