Fredrick Junior Hermreck

Fredrick Junior 'Fred' Hermreck was born December 26, 1927, at Bush City, Kansas. He was the son of Fred William and Beulah P. (Eyman) Hermreck. Fred grew up in the Garnett area, moving to Ottawa in 1951, where he lived until 1971. He moved to Osawatomie in 1971, and Lawrence in 1978, where he made his home until his death Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at the age of seventy-four years. Fred graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1945. He also completed several real estate courses at Kansas University, earning his certified residential specialist qualifications. From 1952 to 1971, Fred was employed as a salesman at the Gambles Department Store of Ottawa. From 1971 to 1978, he was owner/operator of the Osawatomie Gambles Department Store, and from 1978 until his retirement in 1997, he was a realtor and broker associated with Hedges Real Estate of Lawrence, Kansas. He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948, stationed in Maryland, where he was a Sergeant in the motor pool and participated in many burial details. He later served in the United States Army from September of 1950 to December of 1951 as a Technical Sergeant in Korea during the Korean War, as a high speed radio operator. Fred was a member of First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie, former member of American Legion Post, Lawrence, and former Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge member.
