Frederick Warren Adamson

July 5, 1925 — October 16, 2005

Frederick Warren 'Fred' Adamson was born on Sunday, July 5, 1925, in Emporia, Kansas. He was the son of Fred and Amy (Harris) Adamson. In 1935, Fred moved from Emporia to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home, until his death Sunday, October 16, 2005, at the age of eighty years. Fred attended Ottawa High School and later attained his G.E.D. He was a typesetter/printer in the graphic arts industry. From 1947 to 1984, thirty-seven years, he was co-owner of Central Check Company, in Ottawa. In June of 1984, he was employed by Franklin County in the maintenance department at the courthouse, retiring in 1993. Fred served in the United States Army, as a heavy equipment operator, from September 14, 1943, to February 19, 1946, during World War II, attaining the rank of T-4. He was with the 170th Engineer Combat Battalion serving in the South Pacific. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Bronze Service Arrowhead Pacific Theater. He served eighteen months and two days overseas duty. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, and Oxford Service Forum Sunday School class; Scout Master of Troop 77 for twenty-one years; District Commissioner; Chairman of Pride Community; and helped initiate city-wide trash pick-up and spring and fall clean-up, all in Ottawa. He was also a member of the Night Crawlers Camping Club. Fred was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was very proud and supportive of his family and loved their family gatherings.
