Frederick Marvin Rowland

February 15, 1923 — October 28, 2003

Frederick Marvin 'Mose' Rowland was born February 15, 1923, at Lane, Kansas, the son of William Elmer and Nettie T. (Hardy) Rowland. With the exception of the early 1940's, living in California, Marvin made his home in Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at the age of eighty years. Marvin graduated from Lane High School with the class of 1941. He was a lifelong self-employed farmer and stockman. In the early 1940's, he was employed at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, California. He was a member of Lane Methodist Church and former member of Lane School Board, Kansas Farm Bureau, and Lane Odd Fellows. In 1990, he won the Franklin County Conservation Award. Marvin loved farming and gardening. In fact, he owned one of the first tractors with rubber tires in Franklin County. He especially enjoyed riding around looking at other farms. He appreciated the beauty of farmland and the scenic mountains in Colorado. He was very kind to animals and loved his Red Irish Setter, Lucy, who set right beside him in the truck. Most of all, Marvin loved his family and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On May 8, 1942, Marvin was united in marriage with Marguerite Frances Witt at Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by three daughters, Beverly Kelley and her husband, Jack, of Lenexa, Kansas, Becky Stottlemire and her husband, Don, of Rantoul, Kansas, Sherri Baker of Richmond, Kansas; five grandsons, Tony Stottlemire, Rod Stottlemire, Matthew Baker, Nathan Baker, David Kelley; and four great-grandsons, Cole Kelley, Brandon Dargon, Shawn Stottlemire and Bryce Stottlemire. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Rowland; and three sisters, Wilma Rowland, Dean Boyd and Peggy Juedeman.
